When people think of psychology, mostly they think about mind reading, behavioral manipulation, neuroscience or anything somewhat relevant but yet farfetched. Little did they know that psychology is a part of anyone’s daily life. Literally, psychology means the study of human behavior. And with a person doing something everyday or even when not doing anything, he is still a part of psychology or psychology is still playing a role in his life. Whether we like it or not, psychology is deeply interwoven and integrated into our lives. Some may not admit it, but psychology is a very big aspect to who we are, what we do, and what we could be.
So how is psychology involved in everything that a person does everyday? Let us start with a normal day. Let us say you wake up in the morning, get some breakfast, and go to school. Already psychology is playing its part on this one. Your brain has developed the routine to wake up every morning thus it autopilots into getting out of bed, getting yourself ready, grabbing food, and heading to school. In other days perhaps your mental well being is not so good and so you lack the motivation to get up. Some individuals who are suffering from depression have a hard time getting themselves out of bed. Or perhaps if you suddenly have fears about going to school like someone is bullying you or there had been a terrible car crash recently and already you are afraid to go out of the house. You see whatever you decide, or whatever you do is psychology.
Besides the behavior that you do everyday, we can talk about your personality as part of psychology. Perhaps you are a person who is persistent about his plans and goals. You are positive about overcoming any obstacles. Thus even when you are feeling under the weather, you still gather yourself up in the morning to go to work. Even though there are people and things that you hate at work, you may complain about it but you don’t let it stop you from coming to work. In other cases, some people who might even just have a cold or headache would skip a whole day of work or may be even a day more. If something bothers them at work, then they would just stop coming. These things, a person character towards difficulties is an expression of his mental well being or simply how his psychology is shaped. It could be a genetic or a developed trait. It is possible that for the former example, his parents or any of his ancestors have the same fighting spirit. Maybe it can be even traced that this person has a warrior in his bloodline like a samurai or a soldier. It could also be possible that it is a developed trait. It is possible that none of his family has the same character but he obtained such personality based on his own thinking and experiences. It is called nature vs nurture and it is debated so much even until today.
Psychology is everything that you do, everything that you say, your responses; the way you deal with things, with stress, with setbacks, and with success. Psychology is the very core of you. It is a part of everything we decide on consciously or subconsciously – from the colors of clothes we wear, to the person we feel comfortable about, to the food that we want to eat.
